Search engine optimisation designed in from the very start
A vital fact to understand is that you cannot expect to get found on the web unless your site is attractive to search engines - and that is no longer something you can tack on at the end. The most important search engines today are almost immune to all the old tricks for getting high rankings. Now they are looking for relevant content, which is why it is vital that we concentrate on helping you refine the messages you want to communicate and on designing your site to get it noticed by the robots and humans.
Clean design, clear text and simple to navigate
Our research has demonstrated that when people are making buying decisions on the web they want text that is easy to read, obvious navigation and, of course, an attractive design. There are exceptions, but generally it has been shown that cluttered design, poor choice of colours, inappropriate sounds and flashing or overly-animated areas are usually annoying and drive people away.
So unless your target market demands these features,
we will usually suggest simple and more restrained designs.
Of course, for example, if you need to demonstrate a product from many angles or are in the music or video industry you may well have good reason to have active components to your site. If required we can easily build those elements into a design using Flash and similar technologies. But animating things just because you can doesn't seem to add to sales and profitability.
Is it important to make websites W3C & CSS compliant?
We have always believed that it is important that websites should work in any browsers and that visitors should have pretty much the same experience using Opera, Safari, Mozilla or any other system. Frankly, as long as it worked well we were not too bothered about writing strictly perfect code. The way things are going now with browsers and search engines, however, we have changed our view.
Clean code that meets W3C HTML and CSS standards loads quicker and is indexed better by search engines. That in itself is good enough reason to build all new sites to be compliant. This brings with it new challenges to get things looking right in all browsers but the extra work is worth it to future proof our sites. So this site and all its pages are fully compliant as demonstrated by the logos below.
