Portfolio of recent work by Leaping Hare
nalgao (the National
Association of Local Government Arts Officers) needed a new website
to deliver information to its members and provide a shop window for
people and organisations wishing to join. Leaping Hare was chosen
to design and develop a site that would be easy for the nalgao team
to update themselves whilst providing a flexible range of facilities
for the association.
Leaping Hare chose the e107 CMS system to provide forums, calendar and the ability for all members to submit news stories and communicate quickly throughout the association. We will be actively supporting and maintaining the site into the future.
Alison
Wear is an award-winning garden designer with a theatre
and film background, so you can imagine that she would want to
ensure her work is shown off in style. Alison's key requirement
was an on-line portfolio that lets the images tell their own story.
Leaping Hare created a simple but effective gallery using pure CSS that enlarges thumbnails within the page context for each featured garden and striking images on general information pages. The logo was also restyled and simplified.
Lucy
Butcher is a young artist still experimenting with style
and content. Mostly working in ceramics her pieces are a balance
between strength and fragility. The site was designed to reflect
this by presenting her artwork in a simple, strong, almost stark
style. Lucy wanted the site to make a statement as she moved
out from the security of university and into the next stage of
her career development.
Paul Lashmar is a renowned investigative journalist who has covered many
of the major stories of the last 30 years. A freelancer, he regularly
writes for the Independent on Sunday, the Guardian and the Evening
Standard amongst other newspapers. He also produces and contributes
to documentary films and is a regular interviewee on radio and TV,
especially on topics associated with the Cold War (such as the Cuban
Missile Crisis and spyflights) and organised and major crime.
Paul wanted a site that looks professional and reflects his high standing in the media. It is important that it will be easily found by researchers and potential commissioning producers. He also wanted to be able to update the site himself with news and articles almost like a blog. We used a content management system (CMS) called e107 and tailored it to Paul's needs.
Simon
Ripley, an established Devon-based artist and printmaker, wanted
a site to promote and sell his work. He wanted
a site that "stands out and looks a bit different" but is clear and
easy to use. It was also important to be able to view his images as true
to the originals as possible.
With such strong and varied colours in his work it was important to use a neutral background, yet he was "quite keen on the bold use of colour in the site itself". Leaping Hare created a cool, uncluttered design using mostly muted tones but introducing a bright red vertical line motif. The home page features a scrollable gallery of images optimised for fast loading but still true to the original colours. A further gallery of thumbnails allows the visitor to open high resolution images of Simon's linocut monoprints.
Saffron
Beagley is a young composer, saxophonist and band leader.
Leaping Hare is developing the site for Saffron whilst providing
mentoring to help develop and clarify her marketing ideas. The site
is being created in a collaborative way, with pages being added as
the ideas evolve.
The
Traditional & Rare Breed Meat Company produces sausages, bacon and
choice meat from rare breed stock raised on their own welfare-friendly
farm.
Leaping Hare designed a site that promotes the products and allows customers to order on line. The site also delivers an educational message about the importance of preserving these endangered breeds and how eating their meat not only has environmental and health benefits but is paradoxically their only hope of survival.
As well as designing and hosting the website (which gets excellent rankings) Leaping Hare delivered graphic design, copy writing, photography and internet consultancy.
Sally
Beeson delivers programme and project management services.
She wanted her website to reflect her business style; providing a
disciplined and structured approach but with a gentle touch.
Leaping Hare created a restrained website design of text and diagrams, which was carried through to her stationery and business cards.
Farmcraft provides
bed & breakfast accommodation and holidays on a working farm. The
brief involved recreating a logo from a faded photocopy and simplifying
myriad ideas into clear marketing messages. Leaping Hare also provided
photography and other graphics.
